Why do customers choose to buy cars online?

More and more people choose to shop online for an ever-increasing range of products and services. Recent studies have also shown that even big purchases, such as buying a new car, are increasingly carried out online. But just why do customers prefer to buy their cars online?

Avoiding the dealership

A recent survey has found that many people no longer wish to buy their cars from a dealership. Indeed, one-third of respondents would be happy to complete the entire car-purchasing process over the internet. Why is this, though?

Many people find that when they purchase products online they can do it in their own time, without feeling under pressure. Visiting a car showroom, however, is often fraught with pressure from over-enthusiastic salespeople. Often, you end up purchasing something you hadn’t intended to, such as upgrades or additional options because you were talked into it. Some respondents even argue that you get lured into setting up unnecessary payment options, even if you are a cash buyer.

It’s also much less time-consuming to complete the paperwork online yourself, where you can do it at a time that suits you.

The easier option

To avoid all of the complications associated with using a dealership, more people are turning to buying their car online. Although you might assume it’s just younger groups who prefer the online option, in fact, studies reveal that older generations are tempted by this proposition, too.

According to Business Leader 44% of Millennials and 32% of the older generations would rather choose an online platform for browsing and comparing cars and finance options, rather than go to a dealership.

Considerations

Whether you choose to purchase motor trade insurance such as using sites like Quotemetoday, or you buy a car online, it’s essential to understand that the process is not quite the same as walking into a dealership. While it is relatively straightforward to upload all of the necessary documentation online to complete your purchase, make sure you do thorough research into the history of the car you are buying if it is second-hand.

If you are going to purchase a car online, it also makes sense to use a reputable online site that you trust. You should still have the option to view the car and test drive it before you sign on the dotted line.
